This scholarship is made possible by the Society for Inclusive Blacksmiths to increase accountability within the craft and to support diversity in the field of blacksmithing. The SIBs scholarship is available to individuals from historically marginalized groups, which includes anyone who identifies as BIPOC, LGBTQA+, female, or disabled. The SIBs scholarship is only available for blacksmithing classes and for students 18+ years old.
2 scholarships will be awarded on October 31st, 2022. The recipients will have the opportunity to attend 3 blacksmithing weekend workshops of their choosing with Leslie Tharp before December 31st 2023. The cost of registration and materials are covered, as well as safety gear. The cost of travel is not included.

*** Your Portfolio images are meant to show your interests in pursuing this craft, but do not need to be professional quality and do not need to show metalwork of any kind if you have not yet had access to that medium.
Application Evaluation: Applications will be reviewed by a committee of representatives that include artists and arts professionals. The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who demonstrates exceptional promise, and who’s past work and exhibition activities show strong potential and dedication to a career in art. The recipient’s proposal will clearly articulate the anticipated educational impact of the award
